What are the characteristics of these common casting processes and what are the suitable castings!

Casting is a kind of metal thermal processing technology that human beings have mastered relatively early, and it has a history of about 6000 years. China has entered the heyday of bronze castings between 1700 and 1000 BC, and the technology has reached a very high level. The material of the mould can be sand, metal or even ceramic. According to different requirements, the method used will be different. What are the characteristics of each casting process? What kind of products are suitable?
1. sand casting
Casting material: various materials
Casting quality: dozens of grams-tens of tons to hundreds of tons
Casting surface quality: poor
Casting structure: simple
Production cost: low
Scope of application: the most commonly used casting method. Manual molding is suitable for single-piece, small batch and large castings with complex shapes that are difficult to use molding machines. Machine modeling is suitable for mass production of small and medium castings.
Process characteristics: manual modeling: flexible and easy, but low production efficiency, high labor intensity, low dimensional accuracy and surface quality. Machine modeling: high dimensional accuracy and surface quality, but large investment.
2. investment casting
Casting material: cast steel and non-ferrous alloy
Casting quality: a few grams --- a few kilograms
Casting surface quality: very good
Casting structure: any complex
Production cost: when mass production, it is cheaper than completely mechanical production
Scope of application: small and complex precision castings of various batches of cast steel and high melting point alloys, especially suitable for casting art and precision mechanical parts.
Process characteristics: dimensional accuracy, smooth surface, but low production efficiency.
3. lost foam casting
Casting material: various materials
Casting quality: a few grams to a few tons
Casting surface quality: better
Casting structure: more complex
Production costs: lower
Scope of application: different batches of more complex and various alloy castings.
Process characteristics: high dimensional accuracy of castings, casting design freedom, simple process, but the appearance of combustion has a certain environmental impact.
